How Much THC Is in CBD Oil?

There is a lot of noise and misinformation when it comes to the difference between CBD and THC oil, and THC activity in CBD oil products. Many people claim all CBD products contain THC by nature, while others promise CBD products with no THC whatsoever.

Unfortunately, this leaves a lot of CBD beginners understandably confused about THC, CBD, and psychoactive ingredients.

So, how much THC is in CBD oil? Is there such a thing as THC-free CBD products, or do all CBD derivatives contain trace amounts of THC? Let's do a THC and CBD oil deep dive and find out.

What this article covers:

How Much THC Is In CBD Oil?

Most people assume CBD and THC are the same thing, but it couldn't be further from the truth. THC is the intoxicating ingredient in cannabis, which give users the characteristic “high” associated with cannabis.

CBD, on the other hand, has none of the same properties. It offers users all the cannabis-associated benefits without making the user high.

Because CBD and THC come from the same plant strain, there could be some THC in CBD products. But because of government regulation, most of the THC is removed from CBD products until it meets the 0.3% minimum THC requirement.

Companies are required to be upfront about the THC in their CBD products. For example, our products don't contain any THC.

There are three types of CBD oil. Depending on the type of CBD oil you're consuming, there might even be no THC present at all. Let's take a look at the THC allowance for each type.

Full-Spectrum

Full-spectrum is an almost completely natural CBD product, which means it has gone through the least refinement. It contains all the flavonoids, terpenes, and hemp plant components that naturally occur in the wild.

Because it's almost completely natural, it contains the most THC of all CBD oil types. But it's still not nearly as much THC as THC-dominant products.

For a company to sell full-spectrum CBD, it needs to meet the FDA regulation of 0.3% THC. So, when there is mention of full spectrum CBD, people are talking about CBD with the most THC–even though it still has very little THC present.

However, just because a product is a full spectrum product doesn't mean it automatically contains THC. All our products are completely THC-free.

Broad-Spectrum

The best and most popular CBD product is broad-spectrum CBD. Broad spectrum refers to pure natural CBD oil with no THC present. If there are trace amounts of THC present, it'll be so low that it doesn't register.

Broad-spectrum CBD contains terpenes and flavonoids like full-spectrum CBD, but it goes through extra refinement to remove the THC in the plant. It's a very popular product because it features the powerful healing properties of cannabis without the accompanying high associated with THC.

Isolate

Finally, we have CBD isolates. CBD isolates refer to powder CBD products that contain only CBD. There is no THC present, not even trace amounts. Based on our research, an isolate produces the best results when accompanied by a full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD oil.

Isolates go through a robust refinement process that removes everything besides the CBD compound from the hemp plant. They're a good option for people who want to add a boost of pure CBD to their existing CBD supply, without adding other cannabinoids.

Can You Get High From CBD?

Even if you are consuming CBD oil with low THC like full spectrum CBD, you won't get high from it. While CBD and THC come from the same plant, THC is the compound that causes the euphoric state most people associate with cannabis.

CBD doesn't contain enough THC to get you high. To get you high, the CBD would need to contain at least 15% THC, far above the regulated 0.3%.

If people use CBD and experience any sort of euphoric state, it's the product of anxiety, stress, or chronic pain going away. It feels more like decompression than the traditional “high” of marijuana.

You also won't feel this uplifting feeling with small doses of CBD. You'll have to use a very strong CBD oil like our extra-strength 5000mg CBD oil.

Does CBD Show Up On Drug Tests?

If you're worried about using CBD because some THC might trigger a positive test, we sympathize.

Luckily, most THC testing kits have a minimum THC threshold that isn't triggered by trace amounts of THC–like you'd find in full or some broad-spectrum products.

The chance of testing positive for THC from regulated CBD products won't happen unless the product has more than the required 0.3% THC.

According to our research, false positivities are still possible, albeit very uncommon. If you're worried about a false positive, we'd suggest using a broad-spectrum product with an isolate.

How To Check Your CBD Oil's THC Content

To find out how much THC is present–if any–in your CBD oil, read the product description. If there is THC present, your supplier should state it clearly. They'll also list how pure the CBD oil is.

It's important to buy from a CBD supplier that shares product testing information. One good example is Pure Spectrum. We openly share our product test results. With us, you'll always know what's in your CBD products.

Conclusion

As CBD oil gains popularity for all its amazing benefits, misinformation continues to confuse and scare away CBD beginners. The biggest issue people face is the THC content in CBD, specifically how much THC there is in CBD oil.

According to FDA regulations, CBD products cannot contain more than 0.3% THC. Many CBD oil options are completely THC-free. So, whether you want CBD with THC or without, there is a CBD oil option for you.

How Much THC Is In CBD Oil? (FAQs)

What Is Considered High THC In CBD Oil?

CBD oil is regulated and has to contain 0.3% or less THC. If your oil has more THC than that, then it has a high amount of THC–not because it'll be a lot of THC, but because it goes against regulation.

If you want CBD oil that contains more THC, you will need to purchase a THC product that also contains CBD. Anything more than 25% THC in your CBD oil will be a lot of THC.

What Is The Best Type Of CBD Oil?

The best type of CBD depends on your unique needs. That being said, broad-spectrum CBD is popular for a reason. It's potent and versatile. It also works brilliantly when used with isolates and other CBD products, for physical and mental improvement.
