James Newbury is a four-time CrossFit Games athlete and one of Australia’s most accomplished competitors. A former rugby player with an early drive for elite performance, James discovered CrossFit in 2012 and quickly rose through the ranks—finishing top 50 in the world in his first Open. He made his Games debut in 2016 and has since returned every year, claiming multiple first-place finishes at Regional and Sanctional events. His career-best finish came in 2019, where he placed 5th in the world, solidifying his spot among the sport’s elite.
